How much does stump grinding cost?
WiscoStumps charges $6 per inch of stump diameter for grind-only service, or $11 per inch for grinding with full cleanup (chips hauled away, spot left level), measured at the widest point at ground level. Every visit has a $200 trip minimum. Multi-stump jobs total the inches across all stumps, so grouping them into one visit is the most cost-effective approach.
Do you remove the roots too?
No — and that is normal. Stump grinding removes the visible stump below grade; the underground roots stay and decay naturally over several years without regrowing in most species. Full root extraction is a bigger, more invasive job — ask WiscoStumps about it if you are replanting or building.
Will the yard be torn up?
No. Stump grinding is far less disruptive than pulling a stump out with an excavator. WiscoStumps uses compact grinding equipment that protects the surrounding turf, and what is left is a chip-filled depression that can be backfilled and seeded — not a crater.

Will the stump grow back after grinding?
In most cases, no. Grinding cuts the stump below grade, which kills most tree species outright. A few aggressive species — willows, poplars, silver maples — can send up shoots from remaining roots for a season or two; mowing or clipping them exhausts the roots quickly.
What happens to the wood chips?
You choose. Grinding turns the stump into a pile of wood-chip mulch. Many homeowners keep it — it settles into the hole and works as free mulch. WiscoStumps can also haul the chips away and backfill with topsoil so the spot is ready for grass seed.
How deep do you grind?
